Walk on a volcano in Maine
Holbrook Island Sanctuary is the location of a diverse group of ecosystems. Natural areas include upland forests, rocksy shores, beaches, mud flats, and steep hills that were once volcanoes! Evergreen and hardwood trees stand along side wetlands and meadows. When the frost has lifted in early spring, flowers begin to bloom, and continue to bloom here until late fall. Many species of wildlife have made the sanctuary their home and are often seen here. Some include deer, fox, muskrat, beaver, otter, porcupine, bobcat and coyote.
