Down East Sunrise Trail

85 miles of year-round, multi-use trails

The Down East Sunrise Trail was established through cooperative agreements between the Maine DOT and the Maine Department of Conservation.  The gravel-based trail follows the Calais Branch rail corridor and is managed for use by outdoor enthusiasts all year long.  The trail goes from Ellsworth to Ayers Junction, passing through Washington Junction, Cherryfield, and Machias.
